In truth, few if any Blues supporters had heard of Shani Tarashaj before it emerged Roberto Martinez was close to snapping up the 20-year-old up from Grasshopper Zurich.
But the moment Tarashaj was termed ‘the new Xherdan Shaqiri’ suddenly everybody knew exactly what to expect.
Okay, there are similarities. Both are Swiss nationals with Albanian and Kosovan roots. Both are fairly tiddly for a footballer. Both are attackers.
Who, though, decided he was the new Shaqiri? Is it someone who has regularly seen them both play?
Or is it just yet another example of a shorthand nickname given to a player to lazily give everybody a rough idea of what he could be like?
Tarashaj might end up as a player similar to Shaqiri. He may not.
But let’s give him a chance to first work out how to be the new Shani Tarashaj
