Please come and join us at Pinner Synagogue for the screening of an award-winning documentary film BESA – The Promise, the Untold Holocaust Story of Albanian Rescuers. It will be introduced by H.E. Mr Mal Berisha, the Albanian Ambassador in London, and Prof Dr Scarlett Epstein OBE, a Jewish refugee who was herself rescued by Albanians.
The film had its UK premiere at the recent Jewish Film Festival and is not yet on general release. Pinner Synagogue has been able to secure the rights to show it and to provide an opportunity for a Jewish community to say ‘thank you’ to the Albanians for their heroism and self-sacrifice.
The remarkable story of two men – a renowned Jewish-American photographer determined to document first-hand accounts of Albanians who rescued Jews during the Holocaust and an Albanian Muslim, seeking to fulfil his father’s promise to the Jewish family he rescued.
