Swiss-Albanian Xherdan Shaqiri provided the X Factor as Stoke City clambered out of the Premier League relegation zone yesterday with a comfortable win over beleaguered Hull.

Shaqiri’s left boot produced the game’s most obvious moments of quality, including both goals as the visitors leapfrogged their opponents in the table.

Both came from outside the area – the first after his speed of thought bought some space, the second direct from a free-kick – to expose Hull’s inability to clear.
