A newborn baby was left hundreds of miles from any family when her asylum seeker mum died after childbirth.

The baby girl spent just an hour with her mum Duhije Kika who arrived in the UK three months before she gave birth.

The tragic start to her life was revealed after the girl’s guardians were tracked down in Oxfordshire where she is being raised.

Two midwives at Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales presented her story to directors at a health board meeting.

They said pregnant Duhije left Albania and arrived in London in October 2015.

She then moved to Cardiff in December of that year, just a month before she was due to give birth.
