Special jury prizes were awarded to Blerta Zeqiri’s Kosovan-Albanian debut feature The Marriage (Martesa) for its ensemble cast and to Clara Laperrousaz and Laura Laperrousaz for their directing efforts on Sunbeat (Soleil Battant, France-Portugal).

The Marriage was also awarded the FIPRESCI critics prize “for its portrayal of a longing for love, whatever the sexual orientation may be, and for the director’s demonstration of the illusion of happiness,” said jury member and Hungarian film editor Kata Orsolya at a festival press conference held before the awards. The FIPRESCI prize is selected soley from the first feature competition.

The 21st edition of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival concluded its 17-day run on Saturday December 2, with Temirbek Birnazarov’s Night Accident (Tunku Kyrsyk) winning the event’s main prize, the grand prix award.
