Elizabeth Gowing, a British author who writes about her experiences in Kosovo and one of the co-founders of The Ideas Partnership a charitable NGO in Kosova, ran 5000 metres on 10th May 2015 in Prishtina, to raise money for the nursery school that’s been opened in Fushe Kosove. She raced with a team of 20 volunteers.
The Ideas Partnership aim was to raise £400 which will cover the cost of a teacher and two assistants for one class at the kindergarten for a month, but in the end they managed to raise over 2300 Euros for the kindergarten in Fushe Kosove, which was an amazing achievement – thanks to generous donations from Kosovars, foreigners and companies who sponsored this charitable event (chief among them being Sirius Hotel, but also the Pierre Cardin shop in Prishtina, Checci Consulting and Cafe Z).
The money will ensure that the kindergarten keeps going well into next year, offering pre-school education for 80 of the poorest children in Kosovo, also giving them a chance to step out of the mud of the neighbourhood’s streets, and into the world of the alphabet, action songs, future educational achievement – and soft toys.
