Mirana Kqiku (18), has been offered a place to study modern languages at Girton College, Oxford.
Mirana Kqiku, whose parents came to London after fleeing the war in Kosovo, said getting the offer was “overwhelming”.
The student grew up in Stratford speaking Albanian as her first language. She studied for up to four hours a night to win her place to study French at Oriel College, Oxford. She added: “A lot of us applied, but to actually get accepted was a great feeling.
“When I saw previous students from my sixth form were going, it really inspired me.”
