Battle in the Balkans
Following a sold-out screening in New York City, London is the next stop in the journey of the brilliant docu-film “Battle in the Balkans” and you are invited to the one-off London screening which will also give you the opportunity to meet the director and producers.
On October 14, 2014, the two Eastern European countries of Albania and Serbia faced off on the football field in the Serbian capital of Belgrade. With Albanian fans not permitted to attend the game due to purported safety concerns, the stadium full of Serbian fans echoed racist chants and death threats. Tensions rose to a boil when a drone carrying an Albanian flag flew above the players and onto the pitch. Angered fans rushed the field, attacking the Albanian players, forcing the match to be abandoned. A history of political tensions, war and genocide, is explored as we follow the journey of the Albanian National Team through their games as they prepare for their first major football championship appearance.
After the disastrous match in Belgrade on October 14, 2014, Director/Producer Kreshnik Jonuzi saw an opportunity to tell a deeply engaging and emotional story about the Albanian National Football team, and the history surrounding the Albanian people, country and players. He shared the idea with Director/Producer Luftar Von Rama and got to work on shaping the vision of the film. Kreshnik and Luftar came together to work on this project through their similar backgrounds in film, and from their shared passion for making a compelling film. The final and most crucial piece was bringing on their Director, Charlie Askew, an Emmy-Award winning HBO, NFL Films and ESPN director. With Charlie on board, Kreshnik’s background in Sports Documentaries and Luftar’s experience in Independent Films the team created “Battle in the Balkans”.
Total Run Time:
