Last Saturday Kreshnik ‘The Eagle’ Qato fought against Matt ‘Left Hook’ Hainy (9-4) for the English middleweight strap.
The match took place within the Seni 2012 combat sports exhibition at London’s ExCel Arena, the Hard Knocks Promotion card crescendoed to a superb boxer/fighter battle, with Albanian Qato climbing off the canvas from a trademark Hainy left hook in the third to box his way back into the fight.
Both fighters had plenty of fans at the event. Hainy’s were the happier after their man dropped Qato in the third with an accurate left, thrown as part of a determined, loaded combination. The Eagle shook off the count and rose to deliver his snappy jab, which caused blood to pour from Hainy’s nose.
A frantic closing minute saw a brave effort from Hainy, who would have won the fight if scored purely on aggression. For me, Qato sucked it up and outboxed him.
The judges scored a Majority Decision to Qato: 96-94 (Ken Curtis), 94-95 (Marcus McDonnell) and 95-94 (Jeff Hinds).
