Racism in Macedonia (FYROM) has reached highest levels since the Ohrid Peace Agreement (2001). Here you can see ethnic Macedonians chanting “Death to Albanians” and showcasing Nazi symbols.

A disturbing photo has been distributed in social media showing apparently a group of youngsters with Macedonian flags, Nazi salute, Christian Orthodox crosses and a poster written in Cyrillic alphabet which says: “Death To Albanians”

In the last three years there has been an increase in anti-Albanian feelings and racism in Macedonia by Macedonian Slavs towards indigenous Macedonian Albanians, especially under Gruevski’s nationalist government. In the other hand, it is not known for Albanian groups with such extreme racist views, simply there are no far-right movements in Albanian Lands (Albania, Kosovo etc).

Macedonian Albanians’ rights have been systematically ignored and suppressed since the 2001 War and Ohrid Agreement. The Ohrid Agreement gave Albanians more rights, but most of them were never realized.

In the recent days Macedonian Albanians are protesting in various Albanian towns and cities in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, against the jailing of six ethnic Albanians, all sentenced for life. Albanians believe that their entire case is based on suspicion and circumstantial evidence and not on any fact.

The ethnic Albanian protesters are angry at the life sentences handed down for the murder of five Macedonian Slavs during the Orthodox Easter in 2012. The protesters call the convictions politically motivated.
