Albanian farmers to export watermelons to British ASDA
Posted on July 9, 2009 by Toplica

Britain is going to be supplied with watermelons from Albania through WalMart UK subsidiary supermarket ASDA.
Albanian farmers led by Bruka Seedling Company will supply ASDA supermarkets with personal-size watermelons.
This venture, which is an USAID program, will export to Britain at least eight containers of watermelons this summer as a part of a trial phase aimed to help Albania to enter global value chains.
“In addition, experts in the program offered advice in the selection of a watermelon variety suitable for the British market, enabling members of the Divjaka 07 Farmers Association to meet European standards.”
“USAID (www.usaid.gov) experts also offered close mentoring in trade logistics.”
