Kosovan guitarist Petrit Ceku, 25, won the 15th annual Edwin H. and Lehigh W. Schadt String Competition Sunday following a public performance at Symphony Hall in Allentown.

He received a $5,000 cash prize and an opportunity to solo in 2012 with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra. The second place winner received $2,500; third place, $1,500.

Ceku, a student at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, performed Leo Brouwer‘s 1958 composition for guitar and orchestra Tres Danzas Concertantes. His playing was especially notable for the clarity with which he presented the complicated dance rhythms of the Brouwer work. Brouwer, born in 1939, is an important Cuban composer, particularly for guitar.
