Leonora Popaj, a British Albanian who is a general manager of Michelin-starred restaurant L’Autre Pied in London, was astonished when a couple who enjoyed a £572 meal at this restaurant dissapeared without paying the bill.

She said: ‘I never thought this crime was going to happen in this level of restaurant. You have to be very brave or very stupid to do it.’

A CCTV picture issued by L’Autre Pied of the couple who are suspected of leaving without paying their £572 bill

‘In two decades we have never had anything like this, they looked like a very genuine, very lovely couple. Their bill was an average spend. Nothing was out of place or unusual’ said Ms Popaj.

Scotland Yard are investigating to see if any similar restaurant frauds have been committed in the past.
