Former Miss Manchester Sara Beverley Jones tweeted her shock at his death saying: “Devastated! One min you could be talking to someone and an hour later they’re gone! You never know the last time you see someone.”

The 35-year-old Edmin Plori, collapsed as he was standing near the entrance of Neighbourhood bar in Manchester at 2.10am on Saturday.

Door staff went to his aid and someone from the bar began heart massage until paramedics arrived and took over.

He was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary but died later. It is believed Mr Plori had suffered a heart attack. Police are now investigating.

A post mortem examination is taking place to establish a cause of death. It is understood police are examining whether drugs may have been a factor in the death.

Det Sgt Mark Astbury, of the city centre neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are at the very early stages of the investigation so we cannot provide too many details at this stage.

“Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.”

Friends have paid tribute to Albanian-born Mr Plori, known as ‘Albanian Ed’, who was a well-known figure on the Manchester nightclub scene.

It is believed he was a father and his family in Albania are trying to raise money for his body to be repatriated.

Mr Plori was regularly seen partying at clubs The Bijou, Club Liv, Panacea, Neighbourhood and club night Eivissa.

He appeared on a New Year’s video in 2012 put out by The Bijou as a James Bond villain.

Sarah Moore, marketing manager at The Bijou Club, said friends were “devastated” at his sudden death.

She said: “He was a really nice guy, a true gent and he had a lot of time for everybody at the club. Everyone on the scene knows him because he was always out and about, he had such a lot of friends. Anyone who knew him would only have the nicest things to say about him. It has been a complete shock, devastated is not the word.”

Club promoter Charlotte Metcalfe and boyfriend, club DJ Carlton Delingo, saw Eddie out and about regularly in the city.

Charlotte said: “Everyone knew Eddie. An empty void will be left on the Manchester party scene now as he was valued highly by so many. Such a kind, thoughtful and genuinely nice guy. He always went out of his way to come and say hi and make an effort to speak to you.”
