The Battle of Saratoga (1777) is often cited as the turning point of the American War of Independence

In America’s birthday which was yesterday, it was a re-birth of sorts for nearly two dozen people who came to the United States from around the world to build new lives and live the American dream.

They obtained new citizenship after taking the oath of allegiance in a moving ceremony at the Saratoga National Historical Park in Stillwater. The ceremony is 235 years after the citizens of the 13 colonies cast off their British citizenship to become Americans, 20 people from 14 countries gathered to become Americans as well.

Among the oath takers – Besim and Vjollca Shushe of Colonie via Albania.

Besim Shushe says, “It was a very happy, very beautiful day and we’re happy that we achieve this.”

“It is beautiful,” says Vjollca Shushe. “It is really special and I was surprised when they told us that we’re going to become citizens on this day.”
