A Londoner, Marianna Simnett, who is currently on a research trip in Albania for her next film which will premiere at Jerwood Space London and tour to Glasgow CCA in February 2015, is also volunteering in the school in Vermosh for the charity B3P teaching English to children from the village.
She is currently in Vermosh and will travel to Shkodra, Tropoja, Durres, Lac and probably other regions in search of burrneshas. She simply says: “Albania is a wonderful place.”
Marianna is a winner of the Jerwood/Film and Video Umbrella Award. See http://whatwilltheyseeofme.org.uk for more information. She is looking at the existence of older Albanian traditions, and trying to find sworn virgins. She says that her new film is not a film about sworn virgins, however she would like to meet and interview them if possible.
